studio update: Cashmerino 20 Pre-Order & Stitch Markers!

It's been a rather slow start to 2015 here at the new Sweet Fiber Studio. However, I am happy to announce that things are becoming more functional and efficient with each passing day as I find new systems and set ups that work in our new space. There are still a few boxes left to unpack in between test dyes and reshuffling, but it's exciting to feel like I am finally getting somewhere with all of this. It has been surprisingly challenging to move from a small but familiar and efficiently set up space to a much larger one with nothing in it. The potential this new space holds for growth and productivity has definitely kept me focused through all of the craziness that comes with moving your home and your work at the same time. While I work out the kinks, I've been putting together an exciting line-up of new kits, pre-order and clubs for the coming months. But more on that later!

The online shop has officially re-opened today with stitch markers and a Cashmerino 20 pre-order. I've had a lot of requests for the neon jelly stitch markers I sell at shows and am excited to announce they are now available online! Each rubber ring is smooth and flexible, making it easy to slip along with your knitting. In addition, I've set up the first pre-order of the year. Cashmerino 20 is a super soft merino (70%), cashmere (20%), nylon (10%) blend and is perfect for socks, shawls, lightweight tops and anything else you'd like to wrap yourself in. It's available for pre-order in all of our 45+ colourways (while quantities last). Pre-orders will ship in approximately 4 weeks from the date of order.

SWEET FIBER ACCESSORIES

Set along the banks of the Fraser River in historic Fort Langley, this collection captures the spirit of the West Coast in seven cool weather knits. Twisting cables, deep ribs, traveling lace and textured stitches bring your favourite worsted weight hand dyes to life as cozy cowls, warm toques and an asymmetrical lace shawl.

All of the patterns include both written and charted instruction. The entire e-book is available for purchase on Ravelry, as well as individual pattern downloads for those of you who just want a few. Be sure to join us in our Ravelry Group to discuss which patterns you plan to make and to share pictures of your FOs when you're done!

The entire collection has been designed with our two favourite worsted weight yarns! Our Merino Twist Worsted consists of 100% superwash merino and our Cashmerino Worsted is created with an extra special blend of superwash merino, cashmere and nylon. Both have 180 meters / 200 yards per 115 gram skein and are entirely interchangeable with one another. We've updated our online shop to coincide with the release of the new e-book. New Yarn & Colourways for Spring 2014

This past month I've been putting together a collection of new Spring 2014 colourways and working with a new base yarn. The new colourways are a collection of six colours I have been experimenting with for awhile now. I'm excited to be able to offer them full time on all of our bases for both wholesale orders and pre-sale orders. They're light, refreshing and perfect for spring.

These colourways have been photographed on our newest yarn, Coastal. Coastal is a luxurious 50/50 blend of superwash merino and silk. It knits as both a dk and light worsted weight and can be used for almost any project. The silk gives it shimmer, drape and strength while the merino adds loft and body. It really is the perfect blend.

Cascadia

I'm incredibly excited and proud to share with you the release of CascadiaIt was just over a year ago that Amanda and Fiona of Knit Social first contacted me with an invitation to submit a design proposal for their upcoming book. Cascadia is a collaboration between knitwear designers and hand dyers from Coastal British Columbia who have come together to produce a stunning book inspired by the beautiful place we call home.

Along with my own design contribution to the book, I'm pleased to share with you several other designs created with Sweet Fiber Yarns by some talented knitting friends of mine.

thomson-tidalflats-003 copy.jpg

Tidal Flats by Melissa Thomson

Tidal Flats is a slouchy, cabled beanie worked in Sweet Fiber Yarns’ luxurious Cashmerino Worsted. Inspired by the low tide rivulets that intertwine along Spanish Banks, the simple cable motif curves back and forth several times before meeting neatly at the crown of the hat.

richmond-beaconhill-007_copy_medium2.jpg

Beacon Hill by Jane Richmond

A cozy, grandfather-type cardigan with a lengthy body and sleeves for a sweater you could live in. Pairing this silhouette with the luminescent qualities of Sweet Fiber’s neutral colourway Paper Birch resultes in a finished garment that literally gleams as raindrops would. Created with Sweet Fiber Yarns' Merino Twist Worsted.

marples-ravensnest-004_copy_medium2.jpg

Raven's nest Shawl by Judy Marples

The Raven's Nest Shawl is inspired by the landscapes and mythology of the beautiful west coast of Canada. The raven is a cultural focus that symbolizes creation, knowledge, nature and truth in all things. Created with Sweet Fiber Yarns' Cashmerino Sock in the colourway Nocturnelle.

ludeman-seawall-001_copy_medium2.jpg

Sea Wall by TinCanKnits

A born and raised Vancouverite, Alexa adore walks on the Sea Wall. Pacific Ocean air blowing in from one side and a majestic rainforest on the other, what could be better? The cables in these socks mimic the mighty Lions Gate bridge that connects idyllic Stanley Park with the majestic mountains of Vancouver’s North shore, a beautiful sight from the Sea Wall. Created with Sweet Fiber Yarns' Cashmerino sock in the colourway Tea Leaves.

For more information about the book, please be sure to check out the official Cooperative Press Cascadia page along with the Knit Social blog. The official e-book release is tomorrow (September 27th) with the physical book set to ship within the next several weeks!

CORMO

We're excited to announce that a new, limited edition yarn will be available soon in our online shop! The exact day and time of the update has been sent out to those on our emailing list

CORMO is a warm, lofty fingering weight wool that is both bouncy and incredibly soft. Dyed in small batches, we have perfected several of our favourite Sweet Fiber colourways on this new base. This is a limited edition yarn that may or may not be offered again this year.

Pictured below is our almost-white grey "Winter." More CORMO colourways can be seen here

Our Cormo yarns are purchased from family-owned farms in the US and hand dyed here in our Canadian studio.

The Knitter's Frolic 2013

Last Saturday Sweet Fiber Yarns attended the 15th annual Knitter's Frolic in Toronto, put on by the Downtown Knit Collective. We can't thank the organizers and the customers enough for such a fun, fibre filled day! It was our first time as a vendor at the show and we really enjoyed the opportunity to meet so many knitters and vendors from the Toronto area (and beyond!).

Below is a list of what we had on display that day.

Speaking of spring, our friend Marilyn at 88 Stitches knit this beautiful Rae by Jane Richmond with one skein of our Cashmernio Sock in Moss. Simply constructed and cleverly shaped this scarf is one of those perfect accessories that can be worn all year long. We'll have it at the Frolic this year for you to see and try on.

Stitches West 2013: Recap

A big thank you is in order to all of the wonderful knitters who took the time to visit the Sweet Fiber booth this year at Stitches West. It was great meeting many of our customers in person, as well as meeting and chatting with many new ones throughout the weekend. Below you will find the list of yarns, samples and books we had at the show, along with links to their Ravelry pages. We may not have taken as many pictures as we would have liked (it was just too darn busy!) but we did manage to sneak in a couple before opening night.
